BREATH
World renown, Montreal based, electro-dervish Mercan Dece, Canadian soprano Janis Orenstien and a rock star Aydin Sencan and avant-garde whirling dancer Mira Burke & her father, whirling teacher Raqib Brain Burke, came together in Trinity - St. Paul's Center on 3 February 2007, for a special concert named "Breath". Although from very diverse backgrounds and artistic sensibilities, their personal stories are united by common thread of Sufism. In this documentary we tell their personal stories and how their paths joined in a unique concert "Breath".
2007 was declared "The Year of Mevlana" by UNESCO. This concert, marking the 800th anniversary of one of the world's most read poets', Mevlana Jalalediin-i Rumi's, birth was aptly named "Breath". Sufism followers believe that being the secret of all being, breath is the most important of all things. Breath manifests itself as voice, ad word and as sound. And the sound is continually audible, the sound without and the sound within oneself, and that is music.
